Meet the artist.

Christine Lang is a New Zealand landscape artist based in Christchurch, working primarily in acrylic. Painting has been part of her life for as long as she can remember. Born in Ashburton in 1963 and raised on a Mid Canterbury farm, creativity was embedded early. Both of her parents were painters, and from childhood Christine was surrounded by art, observation, and making.

Largely self taught, Christine developed her practice through years of local courses, workshops, and summer schools, learning alongside and from many New Zealand artists. Painting remained a constant throughout her life, even while pursuing other careers, until the pull to paint became impossible to ignore.

She spent nine years living in Asia, where she began painting professionally and working on commission, creating watercolour portraits. On returning to New Zealand, Christine found herself drawn back to the landscape, particularly the South Island. The clarity of light, expansive skies, and dramatic terrain became central to her work and continue to shape her practice today.

Christine is best known for her landscape paintings in acrylic. Her work is characterised by careful detail, strong composition, and a deep sensitivity to light and form. Each painting reflects not only the physical landscape, but also the patience and quiet observation that come from decades of experience. While realism underpins much of her work, Christine enjoys exploring different subject matter and mediums, allowing curiosity and creativity to guide her practice.

Now painting from her home studio in Christchurch, Christine’s work is held in private and corporate collections throughout New Zealand and overseas. She continues to exhibit regularly and welcomes commissions.

Christine brings the same warmth, generosity, and pride to her work that she brings to the people around her. Painting is not simply what she does. It is part of who she is.
